Photography for Performers, Individuals and Events
I photograph three main things: performers, people and events. Each one gets the same approach. Honest, unhurried and focused on what's real rather than what's staged. I'm based in Bristol and work across Southern England, with travel further afield available for the right project.
Performer Photography
I work with dancers, artists, actors and performers in studios, on location or within performance environments. As a dancer myself, I understand movement in a way that goes beyond the technical. I know which details matter to performers and why. The ones that are easy to miss if you're not coming from that world yourself.
What matters most to me in a performer shoot is your vision, not mine. I want to understand how you see yourself and your craft, and create images that reflect that rather than imposing my own interpretation on your work.
Performer photography works for portfolio building, promotional imagery, creative projects or simply documenting your art at a particular moment in time.
Creative Portraits
This is for anyone who wants photographs for self-expression, celebrating themselves, exploring a creative idea or simply having images that actually look like them. You don't need to arrive confident and you don't need to know how to pose. Some people come with a clear concept and others turn up with nothing more than a feeling. Both are completely fine starting points.
I especially welcome people who normally avoid cameras, who feel self-conscious about being photographed, or who've never had a shoot that felt comfortable. The experience matters to me as much as the images. My aim is for you to leave feeling seen and at ease, and hopefully a little more comfortable in front of a camera than when you arrived.
Event Photography
I cover weddings, celebrations, live performances, creative events and other occasions that matter. My approach is mostly observational. I work within what's happening rather than stopping people to pose or steering the event around photography. The interactions, expressions, unexpected moments and small details that give an event its character are exactly what I'm looking for.
I can include relaxed group shots or portraits where you want them, without them taking over the day. Before the event, I'll ask about what's important to you: key people, significant moments, traditions or details you want to make sure are captured.
If you want your event documented as it actually was rather than made to look like a photoshoot, this is the right fit.
Common questions
A creative portrait session is open to anyone who wants photographs for self-expression, confidence or creativity. No performance background needed. A performer shoot is specifically for dancers, artists, actors and other performers who want their craft or artistic identity captured. Both are relaxed and collaborative, but a performer shoot is built much more closely around your artistic vision and how you want your work represented.
No. You can come with a fully formed idea or with nothing more than a rough sense of the mood you're after. Developing the concept together is part of the process. I'll ask questions, listen to what you want and shape the session around you from there.
I work primarily in an observational way. Rather than directing people or interrupting the flow of an event, I move through what's happening and capture real moments as they unfold. Group shots or portraits can absolutely be part of it where you want them, but they fit around your event rather than the other way around.
It depends on the project. Get in touch to talk about what you have in mind and I'll let you know what's possible and how it might work in practice.
Yes. I'm based in Bristol and available to travel to Bath, London and across the UK and Europe. Travel within Bristol and Bath is generally included. Any additional travel costs will always be discussed and agreed before you book.
Not sure which session suits you? Working that out together is part of the process.
